The sun is shining and – if you go to Honda’s jungle themed stand – the birds are most certainly chirruping at this year’s Greener Company Car In Action.

Hundreds of fleets have already been out of the Alpine Course and high-speed bowl, with many more expected this afternoon and tomorrow.

The feedback so far is excellent – fleets are getting to test a variety of models in one day, while manufacturers are picking up prospects and strengthening relationships with existing customers.

The main interest from the fleet managers I’ve spoken to is the electric and hybrid vehicles on show. The Toyota Auris Hybrid, Honda CRZ and Peugeot Ion are attracting a lot of drives and the feedback about all three is positive.

I’ve also seen a lot of vans on the circuit, justifying our decision to include them at this year’s CCIA. After all, around 90% of fleet visitors run cars and vans, so it’s important to give them the opportunity to check out the latest models for both.

The fleet directors that I’ve spoken to are upbeat about the rest of this year. They are seeing more interest from fleets and their order banks are building.

While the SMMT figures from the first half of the year suggest a bit boost in fleet sales, much of this activity has been in the low profit short-term rental market with aggressive action being taken by some manufacturers.

Those here at CCIA reckon some of this activity will fall away to be replaced by ‘true’ fleet sales to leasing, corporates and user-chooser fleets.

You can still register for Day Two of CCIA by calling our hotline – 0844 5570930 - or simply by turning up on the day with your company details and driving licence. Entry is free to fleet decision makers.
