Summary of role:

VMS (Fleet Management) Ltd is a forward thinking fleet management and contract hire company with offices based in East Anglia and Hertfordshire.  VMS provides a range of nationwide services to blue chip fleet operators, Insurances and smaller operators.

As part of our continued growth we are now looking to appoint a General Manager to oversee, expand and develop our workshop operations and team of mobile technicians. This position will be Nationally based and may require some overnight stays. The successful candidate must hold nationally recognised qualifications in vehicle/technical disciplines together with a proven track record in managing workshops and whose mechanical knowledge and management skills can be effectively utilised in this position

The Role:

  • Manage existing three workshops and Technicians in terms of workflow, invoicing, parts and processes.

  • Motivate and lead a team of mobile Technicians, and control all Technicians productivity.

  • Assist in further site acquisitions.

  • Develop profitability and productivity.

  • Maintain good working relationship with other teams within VMS Management.

  • Ensure downtime is kept to a minimum.

  • Ensure maintenance and repairs are carried out to correct manufacturers standards using the most cost effective methods.

  • Manage and ensure all H&S requirements are adhered to within workshops and mobile vehicles.

  • Reporting directly to line Director on productivity, performance and profit.

The ideal candidate should:

  • Be a team player

  • Have excellent IT skills

  • Have excellent leadership skills

  • Excellent vehicle engineering knowledge incorporating LCV / HGV experience

  • Background in vehicle engineering, workshop management with LCV / HGV is essential.

  • Have extensive knowledge of LCV / HGV repair methods

  • It would be a distinct advantage if the applicant possesses the following qualifications;

    • City and Guilds or equivalent qualification.

    • Member of IRTE.

    • Member of the Engineering Council.

    • HGV licence.

    • Certificate of Professional Competence. (CPC)
