Fleet Van Conference: establish an audit trail to prepare for manslaughter investigation

Fleet managers need an audit trail to support them should they be subject to a corporate manslaughter investigation.

“It’s not what you’ve done, it’s what you can prove you’ve done,” said Richard Evans, fleet consultant at CFC Solutions.

Software can provide that audit trail and play a part in communicating best practice to grey fleet drivers.

Mr Evans pointed out that grey fleet vehicles can be set up as an asset on the system, allowing service, maintenance and repair on those vehicles to be tracked.

He said that fleet software should underpin a fleet manager’s risk management policy and allow them to identify causes for concern - before it’s too late.

He warned against using multiple systems.

“You can’t make clear decisions based on fragmented systems.

"One central system makes it easier to see the bigger picture.”

Do you want the rules changed so road crashes involving at-work drivers must be reported to the HSE as part of the health and safety at work regulations?
