Streetcar is to launch a raft of new on-street bays in conjunction with the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

The company, which hires VW Golfs, Polos and Transporter vans on a pay-as-you-go basis, has almost doubled its membership in Kensington and Chelsea to over 3,500, during the past year.

The service currently has 60 vehicles in 49 locations and this is due to increase with a further 50 locations set to launch across the borough in January 2010.

Brett Akker, co-founder of Streetcar, said: “Our phenomenal success across the borough has shown that people really want the flexibility and convenience of owning a car, without the costs and hassle that go with it.”
