London taxi company Addison Lee and courier firm Courier Systems have received awards for reducing their fleets’ carbon emissions.

Addison Lee received the highest accolade, a Green500 Diamond Award for reducing emissions for every journey by over 17% since 2002.

Lee Wickens, environmental manager for Addison Lee said: “We’ve made a commitment right across the company to reduce our carbon footprint, most importantly with our fleet, which accounts for 99% of our CO2.”

The company is working on a further 6% year-on-year reduction by implementing a fuel consumption monitoring system and calculating the standard efficiency of individual vehicles.

Courier Systems received a Platinum Award for a number of environmental decisions, including switching from petrol to LPG vans.

Green500 is a carbon-mentoring programme that provides support and advice from a dedicated carbon mentor.
