TransLinc has been awarded a new Passenger Services contract for Barnsley Council to provide fully qualified personnel and transport to enable local residents with learning disabilities and special needs to attend day centres in the town.

TransLinc is operating the service with 28 new team members and will operate the new contract with 15 Iveco vehicles.

Kevin O’Donnell, transport development manager at Barnsley Council, said: “Newer vehicles and additional training for staff will bring significant benefits to our Passenger Transport Services offering.

“We are always trying to improve quality within the service and this new contract with TransLinc is another step forward.”

TransLinc is delivering the service with 28 new staff and has provided additional training and qualifications to the team, including moving and handling, passenger transfer, vehicle checks and ongoing driver training.

It will operate the service with wheelchair accessible Iveco vehicles in three different wheelbases –one 24-seater and twelve 16-seaters. The vehicles will be used to collect people from their own homes in and around Barnsley and take them to their day centres.

John Conaway, locality manager for TransLinc, said: “We are delighted to have won this contract and look forward to a successful partnership with Barnsley Council.

“It is a great way for us to showcase our full service approach and expertise. From vehicles, to staff and training, TransLinc can tailor the service it provides to the exact needs and requirements of its clients.”
