Telematics provider In-Car Cleverness has signed its hundredth rental operator since entering the market at the start of the year.

More than 11,000 rental vehicles, from LCVs to volume and ultra-prestige models, now carry the In-Car Cleverness technology as the firm continues to make what it describes as “very healthy” in-roads into the sector.

Paul O’Dowd, sales manager, In-Car Cleverness, said: “The customisable and scalable nature of the product and unique support services, like our unique asset recovery and investigation team, means we have been able to hit the ground running.

“It is clear that the technology is now allowing rental operators to fight back and control the risks associated with running their fleets.

“For too long, they have been ‘easy targets’ for criminals and customers who think they can avoid telling the truth in the aftermath of accidents or usage. The spy in the car tackles that head on.”

According to the BVRLA, more than 1,500 rental vehicles are stolen every year. In-Car Cleverness has already helped prevent and recover 10 attempted thefts over the past three months.

It has also been able to assist several rental operators in identifying accident liability on crashed assets. For example, prestige and supercar hirer, Premier Velocity, was able to present what In-Car Cleverness terms the ‘undeniable truth’ to a customer who crashed a rented Ferrari and was denying fault.

In-Car Cleverness technology can be transferred from one vehicle to another, enabling rental firms to immediately gain from the benefits of a completely connected fleet of vehicles.

Practical Car & Van Rental partnered with In-Car Cleverness earlier in the year to offer the product and support services to its network of franchisees.
