A new White Paper, authored by the team at Asset Finance International and sponsored by Drive Software Solutions, has identified the potential for growth in the fleet leasing sector by helping fleets to utilise new mobility related services.

Whether it is the prospect of driverless cars, smart telematics or GPS enabled Apps appearing on driver’s smart-phones as well as the touch-screens of the latest connected cars, it says that fleet operators are seeing an explosion of new vehicle related technologies bringing with them potential to change the way their fleets are managed.

For fleet operators, the fact that most of these new technologies stand alone and do not integrate with the enterprise systems that are used to manage drivers expenses, logistics or vehicles creates scope for additional administrative burden.

Capitalising on those opportunities will require leasing companies to develop new business models so they can combine different transport modes into a single, simple-to-use mobility solution, according to the report.

And, getting that seamless service right will require using technology to build efficient, customer-focused systems.

Simon West-Oliver, Drive Software Solutions sales and marketing director, said: “As business travellers we all want to be able to take advantage of the latest technologies around mobility.

“Business people need to be able to switch between planes, trains and automobiles whether it is for reasons of speed, convenience or to manage costs and technology is now making that possible in a way that would have been impossible even two or three years ago.”

He continued: “There is a clear direction of travel on all of this, we will see more and more services offering greater degrees of flexibility for the business traveller to plan journeys, switch between transport modes and save time. This is both exciting and a potential nightmare for corporates who have large numbers of drivers and business travellers to administer.

“As such it presents a huge opportunity for the fleet leasing industry, who through the management of company vehicle fleets, are uniquely placed to bring the latest crop of mobility services to their corporate customers.”

The White Paper contains case studies and real world examples of innovation around fleet mobility including initiatives by Sixt Rent a Car, Keyzee, Daimler Mobility Services, Leaseplan, Uber and Zipcar.
