Z-Tech Control Systems has added two Nissan eNV200s to its fleet – its first two electric vehicles.

The vans join its London office to serve its Transport for London (TfL) contract for maintenance of pumping systems on the London Underground.

These are some of the first all-electric vehicles to be used by a TfL contractor as part of its commitment to lower pollution in the capital.

Z-Tech is also offering free charging points at both its London and Cambridge offices, providing fast-charging points for up to two vehicles at a time.

Michael Swinhoe, managing director of Z-Tech, said: “We are early adopters of this technology, but having driven these vans, they offer a viable alternative to the combustion engine, particularly within central London.

“The Mayor of London’s support for the charging infrastructure has really helped in my decision, along with organisations such as the Energy Saving Trust, who we have worked closely with us, offering fleet reviews and a great source of EV information.”

Ted Sakyi, fleet manager for London Underground, added:  “Reducing the environmental impact of commercial vehicles on the capital is vitally important and we are able to influence this sort of change with the support of our suppliers.

“We’re delighted that Z-Tech Control Systems istaking an electrifying lead here in our supply chain.

“By taking part in the Rapid Chargepoint Mapping project, Z-Tech will help shape the future deployment of rapid charge points in the capital, and as vans and other light goods vehicles account for more than three-quarters of the freight miles in London, this could have a real impact on reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality.”
