Audi has unveiled its A3 and A3 Sportback 1.6 TDI Ultra models which offer an official combined fuel economy of 83.1mpg with CO2 emissions of 89g/km.

They form part of an expanded 2016 A3 line-up which is available to order now with models expected to reach UK customers in August.

The facelifted range features optimised aerodynamics and lightweight construction which means it is up to 80kg lighter than its predecessor.

The 110hp A3 1.6 TDI Ultra also has a modified final drive ratio in its standard six-speed manual transmission, lowered sports suspension and special tyres to reduce rolling resistance. It is priced from £20,865, or from £21,485 in Sportback variant.

Audi has also made the 1.6 TDI engine available in an all-wheel drive Quattro model. This can return up to 60.1mpg according to the combined cycle test, corresponding to CO2 output of 127g/km (with 16-inch wheel). It is available from £22,915.

The 2.0-litre TDI 150hp engine is also newly available with Quattro drive as part of the 2016 model year changes, joining the 2.0-litre TDI 184hp version in offering front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive options.
