10 2017 Mercedes E-Class coupe

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the new 2017 E-Class coupe, which goes on sale in April next year, with CO2 emissions as low as 106g/km.

It’s the last member of the E-Class family to receive an update, and styling has been bought in line with the rest of the Mercedes coupe range.

A real highlight is the carry-over interior from the E-Class saloon, which is available with two 12.3-inch high-resolution displays for the infotainment, navigation and instruments.

The latest driver assistance systems have also been included with the option of semi-autonomous driving via Brake Assist and Drive Pilot.

At launch there will be a choice of one diesel and three petrol engines, all models get a nine-speed automatic transmission. The diesel is a 2.0-litre unit, designated E220d, it develops 194PS and 400NM of torque.

Acceleration to 60mph is taken care of in 7.4 seconds, but more impressive is the claimed 71mpg average fuel economy and low CO2 figure of 106g/km.

The new E-Class coupe is larger than its predecessor; length has increased by 123mm which means legroom has improved by 74mm. It also has a wider track to deliver enhanced driving dynamics.

“With its clear, aesthetic lines, our new E-Class Coupe appeals equally to heart and mind. It condenses contemporary luxury, agile sportiness and high-tech engineering into an automotive personality with esprit, offering exclusive, refined driving pleasure,” said Prof. Dr Thomas Weber, member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars development.

The infotainment system, Command Online, includes wireless smartphone charging; Apple Carplay and Android Auto; Live traffic alerts; WiFi hotspot; and a concierge service.

A Near Field Communication (NFC) system means that a smartphone can be used in place of a key.

Remote Parking Pilot is also new: for the first time, this system allows the vehicle to be moved into and out of garages and parking spaces remotely using a smartphone app, enabling the occupants to get into and out of the car easily, even where space is very tight.
