UPS expands electric vehicle fleet

Wednesday 19 November 2008, 11:20

UPS is expanding its green fleet with a 12 zero-emission electric Modec vans.

The order follows a nine-month trial of one Modec, where it averaged 18 miles per day and a battery consumption of 25% of full charge.

Six vehicles will be introduced into UPS’s fleet, with the remaining six joining its German equivalent.

“This order represents an important step towards making our fleet and operations more sustainable in the UK,” said UPS’s UK and Ireland managing director Jim Barber.

Each vehicle can undertake 100 miles on one overnight charge, with batteries in future models set to increase the range to 150 miles per two-three hour charge.
