Furniture retailer Starplan has added six Sprinter 314 CDI Long chassis cabs to its fleet.

The vans are now working alongside six established Sprinters and a pair of 7.5-tonne trucks – its English fleet – which undertake deliveries across mainland Britain.

Supplied by the Hull branch of Dealer Northside Truck & Van, they are fitted with high-capacity boxes by Alloy Bodies, of Manchester – providing sufficient internal height to accommodate Starplan’s largest bedroom wardrobes, which stand 2.2-metres tall.

The Sprinter 314 CDI’s fuel-efficient, 143hp four-cylinder engine employs both EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) and BlueTEC SCR (selective catalytic reduction) diesel technology to limit emissions, and easily meets the latest Euro 6 standard.

The subjects of CharterWay contract hire agreements from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, four of the new vehicles are based at Starplan’s Wednesbury, West Midlands, warehouse and showroom, the other two at an outlet in Warrington.

“We commissioned our first six Sprinters in 2012, then added more the following year,” said Daniel McMurtry, Starplan’s operations manager England.

“They’ve proved to be excellent performers, superbly reliable and very cost-effective to run.

“We have also tried a few vans by another supplier, for comparison purposes, but they were no match for our Mercedes-Benz vehicles.”

“We rely on our vehicles to help us deliver our promise to customers, of a service they can depend on,” said McMurtry.

“If a householder has taken time off work for a visit from our fitters, we cannot have a van breaking down on the way. Experience has proved that the Sprinter will not let us down.

“Our new vans also look really smart, and act as very effective mobile advertisements – we receive enquiries every week from customers who have seen our vans out on the road, or delivering to neighbours.

“The support we receive from Mercedes-Benz is first class too,” he added.

“Our vans are maintained by Dealers who offer servicing outside our own working hours, which keeps downtime to an absolute minimum. They are also covered by the MobiloVan roadside assistance package, which includes free breakdown cover that lasts for 30 years.”
