Fleet Strategy & Insight 2010 Report

Written to provide a 360 degree view of the fleet market from recession to recovery, the report includes the results of our exclusive fleet confidence surveys conducted earlier this year, deeper telephone interviews with fleet operators and suppliers, views from industry bodies and our own expert panel.

Fleet operators
The fleet operator survey revealed the measures fleets have been taking – and intend to take over the coming months – to reduce their costs. It also assessed their confidence in suppliers, how certain they were that their company would retain an in-house fleet manager and their views on the length of the recession.

Suppliers
Fleet suppliers were quizzed on whether they would be raising prices, how their business was fairing in the tough economic climate and their plans for growth. They were also asked to give their views on fleet customers’ spending and their opinion on the length of the recession.

Telephone interviews
A series of interviews were undertaken to dig deeper into fleet operators and suppliers’ views. For instance, we asked fleets why they were renegotiating contracts and why they were prepared to switch their supplier or manufacturer. Suppliers were asked to do some crystal ball gazing and their views on the future outlook for the fleet industry are contained within the report.

Industry bodies
Leading industry bodies such as the BVRLA and the SMMT have also given their predictions for 2010.

Fleet News expertise
In addition to this exclusive research, the findings have been put in context using content from Fleet News and other relevant studies. The report also gives our interpretation of the results, explaining what the findings mean for fleets and suppliers.

Key action plans
Action plans for fleet operators and suppliers are included in the report.

“It is great to see such a comprehensive, informative document which covers all of the major issues fleet operators have dealt with this year and those issues still to come. It is clear that there has been a huge amount of investigation involved in this report and it will be of immense benefit to fleets and suppliers alike.” Julie Jenner, chairman, ACFO

"There’s no let up in the pace of change in the fleet industry and whether you manage a fleet, or you are a supplier to fleets, this report really measures the pulse of today’s market.”
Nigel Underdown, Head of Transport Advice, Energy Saving Trust

"Knowing what fleet operators are thinking is vital to my business and this report provided me with some very useful information. 2009 has been a difficult year but some fleets have risen to the challenge, adapted and delivered. Any fleet operator who wants to do the same will find this review invaluable."                                                  David Rawlings, Director, Vertivia
