Green Transport Initiatives
Croydon Council has introduced a number of other ‘greener’ ways for staff to travel, including:
- Cycle2Work and Cycle Plus schemes. These allow employees to purchase bicycles and equipment at a reduced price through salary sacrifice. This is supported by 170 spaces for bikes, showers, lockers and changing facilities at the council’s new headquarters.
- Corporate Oyster cards. Staff that need to travel short distances can use public transport.
- A Liftshare scheme. Employees can share transport to and from work.
- Issuing all staff with a walking map of the borough, showing employees the quickest and safest routes between council buildings.
- The council has also introduced flexible working and working from home.
- Its new headquarters has been built on a 3:2 ratio, which means two workspaces were allocated for every three members of staff.
