DESCRIPTION

National Transport Manager - Hazardous Waste

JOB PURPOSE

To efficiently and effectively manage the day-to-day operations of Hazardous Waste transport fleet, ensuring health and safety, environmental and Operator's Licence compliance, whilst delivering and maintaining first class customer service against pre-defined business KPIs.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1 Deliver budgeted financial performance.

2 Provide leadership, work instructions and monitor the performance of traffic dispatcher’s, planners and drivers at all Hazardous Waste locations, i.e. Review of Depot KPI's- Service, Safety and Profitability.

3 Ensure that the fleet dispatchers, planners and drivers are suitably motivated, trained and developed to fulfil their function.

4 Identify underperformance both of team members and service function, implementing corrective and disciplinary procedures as appropriate.

5 Review, innovate and implement improvements to the service functions activities such as vehicle specification, parking location, sub-contractor database etc.

6 Ensure that the transport team adheres to good HR practices such as absence management procedures, annual performance review and objectives set.

7 Ensure that vehicle management, including liaison with fleet, safe vehicle operations, wheel security, and monitoring of vehicle gross weights is undertaken and compliant. Ensure compliance with transport / environmental legislation including any third party insurance claims. Drive through a reduction of Hazardous Waste Tachograph infringements in line with group KPI’s.

8 Manage the transport P&L account, actively seeking to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, increasing margin and meeting budgetary targets set.

9 Explore the optimal resource solution (Sub- contractors Vs PAYE) Partner with manager of treatment to explore resource requirements to manage implement change.

10 Be capable of managing multiple priorities and working to critical deadlines and objectives. Proposition innovative solutions and improvement, coach and support team to drive performance to achieve objectives.

National CPC

Safety Qualification

Business/ Leadership Qualifications

Treatment CoTC

DGSA

Experience:

Have successfully managed large P&L’s previously

Have managed transport operations

Experience of tenders, costing & organising project work

Experience in the waste industry

Transport industry experience

Having managed Treatment facilities

Technical Knowledge:

Understanding of tanker & industrial cleaning equipment capabilities.

Transport & DGSA legislation

Knowledge of Chemical compatibilities.
