Shipping / Logistics Manager
Our client, a world leader in providing specialist field joint coating services to the onshore and offshore services for all major pipeline construction contractors who have earned a reputation for quality, performance, reliability in the services we provide.
Purpose of the Position
To manage daily shipping and distribution operations within a manufacturing environment. You will be the one to ensure complete orders are shipped and delivery in a timely manner. The goal is to ensure that the shipping processes are running smoothly and effectively.
The below is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.
Negotiating rates and determining best shipment option, co-ordinating and expediting shipments to project sites worldwide
Preparation and tracking of all documents relating to shipments
Dealing promptly and effectively with any delivery issues and communicating to all relevant parties accordingly
Arranging transport movements to support UK projects and PQT activities
Monitoring demobilisations to ensure that all equipment is returned to Burnley and address with the contractors any issues to locate any missing items
Ensuring that adequate shipping documentation is maintained in line with HM Customs & Revenue’s mandatory requirements for the annual audit
Ensuring that the security standard for DfT ‘Known Consignor Status’ is maintained for the annual revalidation
To organize appropriate training for the Shipping Coordinator in line with changing import/export requirements
Issuing purchase orders for all air/sea/road freight, signing off and providing back-up for the suppliers invoices
Management of team members/Est KPI’s/Supporting the business
Must be comfortable with paperwork and information systems and have great knowledge of shipping and receiving procedures.
Using software to track, check, prioritize and route orders
Managing all important documents such as advanced shipping notice, pick slips, bills of lading etc.
Directing the flow of packages from preparation to shipment

Managing all import and exports goods
Direct the flow of packages from preparation to shipment
Inspect labels, barcodes and other features of completed orders
Supervise and lead subordinates (receiving clerks, order pickers etc.)
Control budget of the shipping department
Collaborate with warehouse, purchasing and other managers to optimize processes
Resolve issues regarding shipped orders
Ensure compliance to legal regulations and company policies
Report to management on activities and issues
Proven experience as shipping manager
Solid knowledge of logistics procedures
Used to working within a manufacturing company
Experience in using EDI and preparing shipping documents (e.g. ASN)
Computer savvy with excellent knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel)
Good understanding of budgeting and reporting
Experience in directing and evaluating subordinates
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Attention to detail
High school diploma; BSc/BA in supply chain, logistics or relative field is a definite plus
