Transport Manager – Food Manufacturing
Salary: £40-50,000 + great benefits
Our Client is a branded food manufacturing business with a reputation for delivering outstanding quality of products to retail, food service and hospitality.
Reporting directly to the Head of Operations and Engineering, the Transport Manager’s role is to lead and manage the transport team to deliver excellent standards of service and availability for customers, whilst delivering all site productivity, cost, safety and performance targets. Plus partnering with their Third Party Logistics suppliers to support customer service to a broad range of Clients
Create a strong customer service culture to ensure all food products are delivered on time and in full (to agreed Service Levels) across the total business. Includes pro-active contact with Food Service customers
Drive a culture of continuous improvement to identify improvements in work processes and manage the implementation of them to drive improvements
Continually monitor performance against KPI’s identifying areas for improvement and driving initiatives
Lead a team of individuals with varying responsibilities to work cohesively towards an end goal
Manage and develop external relationships with key 3PL suppliers to include contract management, service and cost negotiation, invoice management
Manage and develop external relationships with maintenance providers to include contract management, service and cost negotiation, invoice management
Manage interface between warehouse operations, commercial and 3 PL
Proactively determine resource plans (Weekly, monthly, annually)
Ensure compliance with appropriate regulations and company standards for both HGV & Delivery vans eg MOT, Tacho, tax, emissions, fleet inspections
Manage / review Telematics scores as a key KPI, across all vehicles
fit & Loss management (budget control, overhead management
Regular 1-2-1’s, with all direct reports. (Drivers to include: CI, telematics, infringements, corrective actions)
Review performance on a regular basis progress against personal & company objectives
Manage skills development and training plans for self & team (incl CPC requirements)
Share knowledge, adopt & share best practice
Adhere to all Company policy and procedures within the workplace
Maintain accurate records for all drivers eg Drivers Licence, CPC Cards, Digital Tachograph Checks
Ideally degree educated
Transport Management experience gained within an organisation demonstrating best practice
Must have worked in an FMCG or Food manufacturing organisation
Must have National CPC to hold the site Operators licence
Experience of delivering to Foodservice & Retail customers, as well as exposure to end user accounts.
Ability to manage, control and influence cost of doing business with customers.
Previous experience and management of 3 PL suppliers including contract management and service and cost negotiation, invoice management
Previous experience of managing Supply Tenders eg CHEP

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) – the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively at all levels.
Able to flex style to suit different situations & behaviours
A brilliant relationship builder (both internally & externally) as this is important in maintain high level of service and quality.
