Permanent Position – 37.5 Hours


The Scottish Ambulance Service Fleet Department maintain a fleet of 1,450 emergency response, scheduled care and support vehicles nationally through 15 in house maintenance facilities and partner services.


We are recruiting a vehicle Master Craftsperson to work in the Tayside area. Applicants should consider that the post will initially be based at the Dundee facility, however, this is pending review and the permanent base may be transferred to our Perth Facility. These facilities maintain the Tayside fleet of specialist support and income generation vehicles. The post holder will be one of a small team reporting to the Maintenance Chargehand.


The post holder will be a qualified mechanic with experience in the maintenance and repair of cars and light commercials. They will be able to work with minimal supervision to the highest standards in a busy emergency service workshop following and ensuring compliance with all processes, policies and procedures expected in a modern maintenance facility.


Working alongside operational staff, effective communications is essential, receiving and interpreting information to ensure effective defect identification, diagnosis and rectification.


To meet the challenges of this position, candidates should have an automotive apprenticeship with at least 3 years workshop and supervisory experience hold a full driving licence (C1 & D1 entitlement attainment would be a condition of employment). A sound working knowledge of computers, use of software programmes, internet and e-mail is essential.  


This is a full time position working 37.5 hours Monday to Friday. A rotating pattern of weekend On Call will be part of the post responsibility with occasional overtime and public holiday working.
