Permanent Position – 37.5 Hours

 

 The Scottish Ambulance Service Fleet Department maintain a fleet of 1,450 emergency response, scheduled care and support vehicles nationally through 15 in house maintenance facilities and partner services.

We are recruiting a Maintenance Chargehand to be based at our Stirling facility in the East Central Division where the Forth Valley fleet of specialist support and income generation vehicles are maintained. The post holder will be one of a team of two maintenance staff based at this essential facility and will report to the Fleet Maintenance Manager based at the East Central Division headquarters in Dundee.

The post holder will be a qualified mechanic with experience in the maintenance and repair of cars and light commercials. They will liaise with operational and control centre staff operating in a highly demanding environment arranging efficient vehicle throughput with work being carried out to the highest standards.  The Maintenance Chargehand will support the full maintenance process on site including local staff supervision, planning work, undertaking maintenance, ordering parts, maintaining stock, ensuring all records are accurately maintained and processes are adhered to in a safe and efficient working environment. They will be able to use initiative to get the best from available resources while prioritising the demands of a busy emergency service.

To meet the challenges of this position, candidates should have an automotive apprenticeship with at least 3 years workshop and supervisory experience hold a full driving licence (C1 & D1 entitlement attainment would be a condition of employment). A sound working knowledge of computers, use of software programmes, internet and e-mail is essential. 

 

This is a full time position working 37.5 hours Monday to Friday. A rotating pattern of weekend On Call will be part of the post responsibility with occasional overtime and public holiday working.
