TRAFFICMASTER has unveiled another addition to its range of jam-busting traffic information systems. Operating using information transmitted from Trafficmaster's comprehensive network of motorway beacons, Freeway is a new digital receiver which complements the popular voice information unit Trafficmate, but offers enhanced features not available on the latter.

Freeway has increased speech quality from the latest in voice chip technology, an increased vocabulary to accommodate a two-year programme of network expansion to trunk roads, plus a greater range at motorway junctions. It operates on a dedicated broadcast frequency to inform drivers of the size and speed of hold-ups on the motorway ahead.

Freeway also allows users to renew their £24 annual airtime subscription literally at the touch of a button via a personal identification number linked to their credit cards. The system will be available in high street electrical stores within the next few weeks priced at £79.99. Meanwhile, VELO is to offer the Freeway system to its fleet management customers at £2.99 a month.
