COMPANY car drivers make 25% more mistakes at the wheel than private motorists according to a new survey from Autoglass. The survey found that the average business driver makes 59 mistakes a week compared with the private motorist's 47 after talking to more than 600 drivers - 15% of whom were company car users.

The single most common risk is speeding, which happens in 37% of journeys and is a factor in 22% of crashes. Thoughtless driving, such as not signalling, happens in 28% of trips and plays a part in 19% of smashes. Road rage is more likely to affect younger drivers on work-related journeys, occurs in 13% of trips and is a secondary factor in 19 of the top 20 causes of crashes.

Mobile phone use is evenly spread: men and company car drivers are only slightly above average, but 'risky' driving culprits are more frequently private car owners on pleasure journeys.
