A MAJOR new force in vehicle disposal has arisen from the amicable split between CMA Group and Mitac, its electronic auction and stock locator system provider. Mitac has established a company called Global Remarketing, which will offer a portfolio of remarketing products and services to manufacturers, franchised dealers, fleet operators, leasing, contract hire and daily rental companies.

Toyota and Citroen used Mitac's system at CMA to remarket their vehicles electronically, and they will continue to use the system at Global Remarketing, which is also in discussion with other manufacturers to offer similar services across Europe.

Last year CMA sold more than 6,000 vehicles for Toyota and Citroen via Mitac's electronic auction, but said this was a specialist service which accounted for just 2.5% of its total business. The CMA-Mitac split follows Independent Car Auctions' acquisition of CMA and its close relationship with American auction giant Manheim - which is developing its own electronic system for the UK.
