Diesel sales reverse

FLEET diesel sales in line with the total new car diesel market increased last month thereby reversing the downward trend of recent months. Diesel cars sold into the fleet sector last month totalled 16,942, just 0.3% up on February 1997's total of 16,892, out of a total diesel market of 28,806 (February 1997: 27,617).

Despite the rise, fleet diesel sales remain below last year's levels at 37,235 (1997: 39,106) with the 4.8% decline in fleet diesel sales significantly ahead of the decline in total diesel sales - 65,909 this year against 66,075 last year.

Top 10 best-selling fleet diesel manufacturers in February: Peugeot 4,050, Vauxhall 2,867, Ford 2,690, Rover 1,757, Volkswagen 1,253, Citroen 944, Renault 747, Audi 481, Nissan 359, Land Rover 351.

Best-selling fleet diesel models in February: Peugeot 306 2,123, Vauxhall Vectra 1,414, Peugeot 406 1,393, Ford Mondeo 1,119, Vauxhall Astra 1,060, Rover 400 910, Ford Escort 824, Volkswagen Passat 714, Rover 200 539, Peugeot 106 493.
