FLEET diesel sales in line with the total new car diesel market increased last month thereby reversing the downward trend of recent months. Diesel cars sold into the fleet sector last month totalled 16,942, just 0.3% up on February 1997's total of 16,892, out of a total diesel market of 28,806 (February 1997: 27,617).

Despite the rise, fleet diesel sales remain below last year's levels at 37,235 (1997: 39,106) with the 4.8% decline in fleet diesel sales significantly ahead of the decline in total diesel sales - 65,909 this year against 66,075 last year.
