RENAULT has launched a new 1.9-litre direct injection turbodiesel engine which will initially be available in Megane hatchback, Classic and Scenic models from next month. The new 1.9dTi engine replaces the indirect turbodiesel 1.9dT engine, but Renault has retained its indirect naturally-aspirated 1.9D unit in the Megane line-up.

Power of the new engine is up from 95bhp at 4,250rpm to 100bhp at 4,000rpm, with fuel economy on the combined cycle up from 44.8mpg to 54.3mpg. However, on-the-road prices remain unchanged. The new engine is not available in entry-level RN Megane models and only becomes available in RT Sport models in the hatchback, RXE models in the Classic and RT versions of the Scenic.

Prices (on-the-road): Megane hatchback - RT Sport 1.9dTi £14,190, RXE 1.9dTi £15,070. Classic - RXE 1.9dTi £15,070. Scenic - RT 1.9dTi £15,050. Renault prices now include the £25 first registration fee introduced on April 1.
