THE new BMW 3-series Compact - which will be the fifth and final member of the premium upper version of the 3-series line-up - goes on sale in the UK next summer.

Initially two models will be available - the entry-level 316Ti powered by a 116bhp engine returning 40.9 mpg on the combined cycle and the 325Ti, the performance flagship, powered by the 2.5-litre straight six 192bhp powerplant returning 31.7mpg. The Compact features a retuned chassis and new front and rear lights. Internally access to the rear seats has been improved. Further details, including prices, will be announced closer to the launch date.
