EVERY fleet customer for the new Honda Civic Type-R, will receive free driver training on how to handle the 200bhp, 146mph hot hatch, courtesy of the firm's Motor Appreciation Course.

Each driver will receive tuition from police advanced driving instructors with Driving Standards Agency qualifications in observation, anticipation and concentration on the one-day course.

Bob McMillan, Honda general manager of MAC and racing, said: 'The fact that the Civic Type R, by virtue of its positioning in the market and its pricing will be available to motorists who would have otherwise not entered into the high performance market means that a level of responsibility exists.

'We at Honda believe that by offering this unique course we not only enhance the driving experience but at the same time improve the quality relationship between Honda and its customers.'

The Honda MAC course originally started out three-and-a-half years ago in the motorcycle division, but due to its popularity was extended to cars in autumn 2000.
