LONDON villains will find the Metropolitan Police creeping up on them in future: the force has become the first in the country to put two silent, electric powered TH!NK City cars on its fleet.

The zero emission cars, which won the Fleet News Special Vehicle Award last year, were presented to chief commissioner Sir John Stevens by Mike Wear, Ford director of fleet sales.

The Met will use the cars for general police work but they will not be involved in pursuits or have blue lights or sirens fitted.

Sir John said: 'This is a revolutionary move for the Met as we seek to introduce greener and more environmentally- friendly ways of delivering an efficient police service for Londoners.'

The cars will be leased from Ford for three years while their value to the fleet is assessed.
