A UK lawnmower importer has fitted ICS Black Box recorders, similar to those found on aeroplanes, to eight vehicles on its fleet.

Henton and Chattell has installed the devices in a bid to improve safety and help improve fleet efficiency.

Service manager Wayne Hallam said: 'The system is primarily for comparing planned and actual journey details, enabling driver performances to be kept at optimum level for reasons of efficiency and safety.'

It can produce up to 80 different reports and, in the event of an accident, can analyse the data in detail.
