HERTZ (UK) has scooped a prestigious business award, beating off a shortlist of O2, Fujitsu, Vodafone and fellow fleet company Lloyds TSB Autolease.

The rental firm won the Sales Operation of the Year award at the Daily Telegraph's National Business Awards, held at the Le Meridien Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The judges said: 'Hertz has an impressive story, which has seen sales grow in a mature and declining market. The implementation of a five-year plan with the aim of market leadership provided a catalyst that has seen customer satisfaction levels at 97%, with customer retention at 100% over the last two years. Now only three years into that plan Hertz is well on track to exceed its aims.'

Lynda Marston, director of marketing and sales operations at Miller Heiman, which sponsored the award, said: 'There was a very high standard of entries this year and this made the judging process extremely difficult and has set a benchmark for future years.

'Special congratulations go to Hertz for demonstrating a great achievement in tough market conditions.'
