MERCEDES-BENZ is adding extra safety features to the Sprinter panel van for 2004.

Next year's model will now feature as standard both ABS brakes and ESP, the manufacturer's safety system that detects unwanted sideways movement of the vehicle and applies the brakes separately to each wheel.

However, a driver's airbag is surprisingly still a paid-for option.
