The Transit, Britain's best-selling light commercial vehicle, is already the only mainstream heavy panel van to feature a driver's airbag as standard and the new move will put the model even further ahead in the safety stakes.
The Transit features front discs and rear drums and the addition of ABS will also include electronic braking control. This aids vehicle control on all kinds of road surfaces and under varying vehicle loads, helping to prevent accidents occurring and giving the driver confidence to handle emergency situations.
Steve Parker, director of commercial vehicles at Ford, said: 'Introducing ABS as standard reasserts Transit's safety leadership position. Transit is one of the few medium commercial vehicles with a driver's airbag as standard – it also has integrated three-point seatbelts and excellent visibility for drivers.
'Transit owners can now be assured of class-leading safety in addition to class-leading security as standard.'
