THE new Vauxhall Astra is cheaper to run than other mainstream lower medium cars, according to Emmox Carcost.

Figures revealed to customers at regional Astra fleet launch events showed the 1.6 Club costs 30.96 pence per mile (ppm) over three years/60,000 miles, compared to 31.40ppm for a Ford Focus 1.6 LX and 32.62ppm for the Volkswagen Golf 1.6 FSi S.

For a fleet of 100 cars, it means a saving of £26,500 over three years for the Astra over a Focus and a £99,600 saving for a fleet of 100 Astras over 100 Golfs, Emmox claims.

The events in Edinburgh, Doncaster, Birmingham, Bristol, Epsom and Milton Keynes attracted more than 400 fleet decision makers, with more than 1,000 recorded test drives.
