British motorists are more courteous to fellow drivers if they're good looking, according to a new survey.

And it works both ways - more than two thirds of Brits admit to smiling or flirting with other drivers purely to get out at a busy junction.

It seems giving someone a quick smile in the morning has great benefits – 90% of the 5,000 people who took part in the nationwide InsureandGo survey said if someone lets them out at a busy junction, the gesture of goodwill rubs off and they are more likely to ‘forward the favour' to another motorist.

But even if you are good looking, you might still struggle to get let out if you drive a BMW. Thirty seven per cent claim they wouldn’t let certain makes of cars out of junctions. Flash BMW's are the least likely to be let out followed by up market motors Jaguar and Mercedes.

Motorists also found anyone on a mobile phone or anyone with neon under-lighting annoying enough to deny them an early exit from a busy junction.
