Emissions fall

THE average CO2 emissions of new cars are continuing to fall, according to figures published by the Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Its 2004 data shows another year-on-year reduction and found a total drop of 9.7% from 1997 levels to 171.4g/km. The biggest decline was in the MPV and 4x4 segments, down 19.4% and 14.6% respectively in eight years.

The report is available at www.smmt.co.uk/publications/environment.
