Cost of a mile

THE average cost of building one mile of new motorway is £23 million, with dual carriageways costing £12 million.

The figures were announced in a Parliamentary written answer which also showed that the cost was dependent on factors such as whether it is an urban or rural area, a new or existing route, quality of land, drainage and site geology.
