BSkyB improves communications

BSKYB’S fleet of van engineers is expected to increase efficiency and productivity by using new PDA mobile information systems.

All 1,300 installation engineers have been equipped with GPRS mobiles that can receive job details direct from base, saving on paperwork, time and money.

The system comes from Idesta Solutions and, according to network operator O2, is the largest live use of a mobile application on its network, sending more than 60,000 installation and service requests each week.

BSkyB’s project manager, Martin Henry, said he was impressed with the system.

He said: ‘The technology has proved to be adaptable and flexible, two highly important aspects of any system.

‘The system is intuitive and has already delivered many great benefits.’
