SPARE a thought for Peter Greenwood of Marshall Leasing, who was the only member of his team to turn up for the South Midlands heat of the 2006 Kwik-Fit Fleet National Karting Challenge.

The car bringing his three fellow team members to the event broke down due to a blown head gasket, leaving Peter to race on his own. He managed an impressive 67.5 laps with an average lap time of 50.3 seconds.

The Volkswagen Financial Services team won the event, edging out DaimlerChrysler Services Fleet Management by the narrowest of margins. Both teams achieved 133 laps of the circuit – with a difference in average lap time of just 0.2 of a second.

Bank of Scotland Vehicle Finance came third, ALD Automotive – Northampton, fourth and CLM Fleet Management fifth.

The event climaxes with a grand final in Milton Keynes in July.
