Volkswagen has become the first automaker in the UK to support Tyre Safety Month, the first ever nationwide tyre safety campaign taking place during the month of October, led by safety organisation TyreSafe.

As part of the initiative, which aims to highlight the road safety dangers of under-inflated tyres, motorists with vehicles of any marque are able to visit a participating Volkswagen dealer in the company’s 250-strong retail network, and receive a free tyre pressure and safety check and tyre safety leaflet during the four weeks of the campaign.

Volkswagen dealers join hundreds of tyre retailers and garages up and down the country supporting the TyreSafe initiative, designed to outline the dangers of driving with severely under inflated and defective tyres.

According to TyreSafe, up to 90% of drivers do not know their correct tyre pressures. The tyre safety organisation has, therefore, introduced a facility on their website (www.tyresafe.org), with support from Experian, which enables motorists to log their registration number and receive the correct tyre pressures for the tyres on their car.
