Call for biofuel liberalisation

The Global Bionergy Partnership (GBEP) has called for the removal of trade barriers hindering the development of an effective international biofuel market.

Because biofuels are regarded an agricultural product under World Trade Organisation rules, governments can subsidise and protect production more than for strictly industrial mineral fuels.

The GBEP is an expert panel from the G8 group of major economies.
