A broker has launched offering only low-emission cars in response to what it sees as confusion among company car drivers over what exactly is a green car.

Ecofleet offers leasing only for cars up to 150g/km in order to simplify the process for drivers.

Joel Williams, director of the Cardiff-based firm, said: “The amount of conflicting research published about the various alternative fuel options and the government’s indecision in their support of each approach has confused UK drivers into doing nothing.

“There is a large section of the business community that has waited some time to take positive steps in reducing their vehicle emissions; Ecofleet will simply facilitate that change.”

The firm chose the 150g/km figure because it fits into the A to C VED tax banding, and falls below the current average emissions for cars of 163g/km.

Ecofleet will also offset carbon emissions from the cars it leases out using Climate Care, which funds projects such as low-fuel stoves in Bangladesh rather than tree planting, which has been criticised for its possibly dubious long-term benefits.
