A new traffic information system has been launched – powered by drivers themselves.

Keepmoving.co.uk describes itself as “YouTube for the road”.

It works through drivers recording audio reports of delays on the road network using their mobile phones.

Those preparing for a journey can access the site or call a five-digit number from their phone to access the reports. Product director Alex Petrie said: “Sites such as YouTube are fantastic recreational tools but even they cannot offer the same mobility and practicality.

“As soon as we launched the service we found that our callers were willing to offer high-quality eyewitness reports. “This goes to show that there is a real community spirit between frustrated motorists who want to help each other out and that there is no better source of traffic information available.”

The reports are streamed free of charge on the website. Access via the phone number – 64644 – costs 60p per minute.
