A fifth of motorists admit that they have still not made any changes to the way they drive to conserve fuel and reduce emissions.

The RAC Report on Motoring found this is in part down to confusion over what constitutes eco-driving, with 21% admitting they don’t know how to be a “greener” driver.

In addition to this, there is a lack of awareness over what causes environmental damage.

A quarter of drivers think that petrol has no or very little impact on the environment and 36% think the same for diesel.

Adrian Tink, RAC motoring strategist said: “What motorists can be sure of is if they concentrate on saving fuel, they’ll not only be saving money they’ll be doing their bit by cutting emissions too.”
