Fleet CV: Lance Joy, group director, Clivet

Describe your fleet.

We run 26 vehicles – a mixture of light commercials and cars, some on contract hire and some on outright purchase.

We mostly run Volkswagen Caddys as service vehicles and X-Type Jaguars for the reps.

What is Clivet?

We are an air-conditioning company with service and sales operations.

We have 130 service contracts across the country and are fairly fortunate to be part of a large group with 80 offices on a global basis.

How do you think the fleet industry is changing?

It is becoming more competitive because of a lack of sales.

Some of the deals we are getting now are better than three years ago.

The difference in lease costs between companies can be up to £120 per vehicle per month so we have to shop around.

What is your favourite aspect of the job?

I came from the motor trade so I have always been interested in vehicles.

The procurement side is probably the most interesting as we have cars on weekly trials from manufacturers.

What would make your job easier?

A fully computerised fleet management system.

We do it manually as I don’t think the fleet is big enough to install an automated system.
