Chater added that BMWs record on environmental sustainability was a key factor in it being appointed an official supplier to the London Olympics.

BMW has sold more than 1.6 million vehicles worldwide equipped with EfficientDynamics technology and the latest version of the 7 Series picked up an award in 2010 – it was the most efficient vehicle in its class.

Chater says in many cases the green credentials of its vehicles have allowed fleets to broaden their choice lists, even where they have imposed caps on CO2 emissions.

BMW's line-up

Steve Chater sums up BMW’s current UK line-up:

The 1 Series is reaching out to new customer groups, particularly as attention has turned towards downsizing. It has become increasingly successful. At this stage in its life-cycle it continues to pick up accolades and we’re delighted with its performance.

The 320d EfficientDynamics saloon has become the most popular 3 Series model since its launch. From a fleet proposition it’s a bit of a no-brainer. It has all the heritage and DNA of BMW, but with 68.9mpg, BIK of 13% and CO2 of 109g/km.

The outgoing 5 Series was still a benchmark in its sector and the most desirable in its competitor set. We have set a new benchmark with the latest model, and with standard Bluetooth and leather seats, it strengthens its position for residual values and wholelife costs.

Whether it’s in the chauffeur market or as a car for senior management within a company
the 7 Series is in a strong position. Its low fuel consumption and low CO2 emissions can help demonstrate that company directors are setting a good example to other staff.

The Mini Countryman is BMW’s first strong fleet proposition with Mini. Feedback has been very positive. It has all the driving quality and characteristics associated with Mini while the diesel All4 has the lowest CO2 of any four-wheel drive car on sale.
