Fostering Solutions has become one of the first privately-owned companies to be awarded the Driving for Better Business, business champion status by the road safety charity Brake for including its grey fleet drivers in its ”driving at work safely” campaign.

This was successfully implemented by having its 720 self employed foster carers sign an agreement allowing Fostering Solutions to carry out annual checks on vehicle documentation and overall vehicle safety. In addition the company has created a drivers’ handbook which provides drivers with information about the implications of transporting children and young people to help reduce risk and increase driver and passenger safety awareness within its grey fleet.

Michael Parish, programme consultant for the ‘Driving for Better Business’ campaign, said: “The safety of ‘grey’ fleet drivers is a major issue for all employers and Fostering Solutions has shown that it is easily possible to extend a safe-driving culture to include people who drive their own cars on business trips.”
