SMMT appoints commercial vehicle development manager

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Nigel Base as commercial vehicle development manager.

Base joins SMMT from his most recent role as aftermarket director at a premium truck manufacturer and will be responsible for strengthening the standing of the UK commercial vehicle sector. The role will continue to build positive relationships between UK-based commercial vehicle manufacturers and industry bodies.

The commercial vehicle sector is a vital part of the UK automotive industry, with key manufacturing sites across the country. The expertise and experience that Base brings to this new role will ensure SMMT drives forward its work to represent the diverse and exciting organisations in the commercial vehicle market from van and truck manufacturers to trailer and bodybuilding companies.

Speaking about his appointment, Base said, “SMMT has a unique place at the centre of the automotive industry. This new role gives me the opportunity to work with our members, the CV industry, other industry bodies and government to ensure that we present a united position on behalf of our members and that the importance of commercial vehicles to the UK economy is recognised.”
