Specsavers Corporate Eyecare has been awarded the contract to provide optical care for global insurer RSA.

Specsavers will be conducting a series of roadshows, visiting RSA offices and staff around the UK to carry out vision screening. Employees will be advised whether they should have a more extensive eye examination, which will be covered under Specsavers’ optical care voucher scheme.

RSA has implemented this eyecare policy for its employees having seen the benefits in practice. In May 2011, Specsavers joined forces with RSA to offer an eyecare solution to all drivers insured under RSA Motor Fleet policies.

RSA’s commitment to its own employees also forms part of a larger road safety initiative.

‘Fit To Drive’ is run by RSA and supported by, among others, Specsavers and road safety charity, Brake.

Under its ‘Fit To Drive’ campaign, RSA is calling for:
• The current number plate test to be scrapped.
• All learner drivers to have their distance vision tested by a qualified professional prior to applying for a provisional driving licence.
• Proof of having had a recent eye test to be incorporated into the 10-year driving licence renewal process.

Martin Howard, spokesperson at Brake, said: “Brake urges all organisations to follow the lead of RSA and embed a comprehensive driver eyesight policy, which will help reduce the number of devastating crashes taking place in the UK.”
