A team from leasing and fleet management specialist Fleet Alliance has raised more than £4,700 for charity after participating in the Five Ferries Challenge.

The team of seven participants, including directors Martin Brown, David Blackmore and Grant Boardman, cycled more than 50 miles in four mainly uphill sections after crossing by ferry to a series of islands in and around Scotland’s North Kintyre and the Firth of Clyde.

The event is intended to raise money for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow and was originally conceived as one man’s personal challenge to see if he could cycle a circular route around the west coast of Scotland, taking in as much sea and scenery as possible within one day.

On what was one of the hottest days of the year so far, the Challenge began at 8.00am and finished at 4.30pm, culminating in a reward of fish and chips for all participants.

Managing director, Martin Brown, said: “It was a very physically demanding challenge with hills that seemed never ending.

“But it was worth it for the breathtaking scenery and the knowledge that we were raising money for a good cause and for one of our recognised charities.”
