Review

In the month our Polo Blue-Motion returned, Volkswagen revealed details of the new Polo and its BlueMotion variant.

The new model, on sale from October, will offer better CO2 emissions (at 96g/km) and similar fuel economy (74mpg) even with a 1.6-litre TDI engine compared to the 1.4-litre TDI in our test model.

Our car still impressed, returning 65.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 99g/km.

But things will get even better when that model is superseded in spring next year by a ‘super’ BlueMotion with 85mpg and 87g/km of CO2.

Back to the present.

Grumbles are few – the driver’s seat is very firm and the engine is sluggish.

But drivers (and fleet managers) don’t choose a BlueMotion for style and comfort – they choose it for frugality and in this aspect it is hard to fault.
